by Arthur Rackham (1867-1939). Private Collection / Bridgeman Art Library

Arthur Rackham is among the best-known English illustrators of the 20th century. He is certainly the most reproduced from the Edwardian period, which was his most prolific period. He studied at the Lambeth School of Art in London, was elected to membership in The Royal Watercolour Society, and later became Master of the Art Workers' Guild. His celebrated illustrations for The Wind and the Willows, Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Mother Goose and various Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales won him acclaim and many awards from his peers. His books and original art are now collected in many countries throughout the world.
