Born in Sebring, Ohio, Viktor Schreckengost attended the Cleveland Institute of Art, followed by study at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, Austria. For many years he taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art and he has won more than 50 awards from such organizations as the American Watercolor Society and the American Institute of Architecture, including the Lesch Award, the Binns Medal, Philadelphia Museum Award of Merit and the Syracuse Museum First Award. In 2006, he received the highest honor the federal government can bestow on an American artist: the National Medal of Arts.
